Tile calculator FAQ
How many tiles do I need for a floor or wall?
Divide surface area (sq ft) by the area of one tile in sq ft, add waste (often 10%), and round up. Tile inches W × H ÷ 144 = sq ft per tile.
What waste factor should I use for tile?
Straight layouts often use about 10%. Diagonal or patterned layouts may need ~15%. Default here is 10%.
How do I convert tile size in inches to square feet?
Width × height in inches ÷ 144. A 12×12 tile is 1 sq ft; a 12×24 is 2 sq ft.
How many tiles are in a box?
Check the carton. Enter tiles per box to see boxes to buy; leave blank for a tile count only.
