Lawn fertilizer FAQ

How much fertilizer do I need for my lawn?

lbs needed = (lawn sq ft ÷ 1,000) × label rate (lbs per 1,000 sq ft). Then divide by bag weight and round up.

What does lbs per 1,000 sq ft mean?

It is the product rate on the bag — pounds of that fertilizer to spread over each 1,000 square feet. Use your label, not a generic default.

How many bags of fertilizer do I need?

Total pounds ÷ bag size, rounded up. Even if you need 16 lbs and bags are 40 lbs, you typically buy one bag.

Is this a substitute for the product label?

No. This is a planning estimate only. Follow the label for rate, timing, and safety. Over-applying can harm turf and waterways.
